the first ever barcamp perth is this weekend, and i’m pretty excited. i’ve been totally deprived of web 2.0ness for the past few months. i even signed up to do a talk on introducing web 2.0 to nongeeks. i’m going to draw on my experiences introducing the living platform and openpolitics.ca to non-techies and training ict4d people for telecentre.org.

red bull is supplying free beverages, which im also very excited about. microsoft has also picked up the afterparty bar tab and other expenses, so the day is now free. i’m all about free entry so everyone can attend and free beers with nerds, but i’m not sure how i feel about microsoft sponsoring barcamp. its kinda like nike sponsoring a conference about good labour practices. but yeah, sweatshops are far more evil than bad software and questionable business practices.
